Bragging rights

So back in April this past year I was able to attend the 2012 Midwest Penturners Gathering.  It was my fist time and so worth my time.  I was really hesitant but I entered a pen into the beginers class and wow! I won first place.  I was really thrilled.  Hear is a picture of my winnings, the plaque and my pen that I entered.  Technically it was a pencil.   the material is dymondwood, giving me an excellant finish.

Bowls

The pictures are out of order and I failed to get a picture before I cut the log up.  Here is a van full of cherry logs
The next three are of a small bowl I turned look at the 'eyes' in the wood.  the wood was still very wet so I dried the bowel in the microwave.  so far 3 months later no cracking.

one half of the cedar mounted and rounded up on the lathe.
turned  down to a shallow bowl. I left is natural so the cedar aroma could be enjoyed.
this is what it looked like inside.  I then turned one half.
go back up 2 pictures.
This should be the first picture for the pervious 3 or 4,  this is a piece of cedar sawed in two.  now back up one picture.
Remember that van load of cherry wood?  well here I am working my way thru turning them into bowl blanks.
A nice chunck of cedar and a pen made from poylmer clay for my neice.  she like to draw so I made a pencil holder to hold a bunch of her markers and colored pencils and a clock so she wont lose track of time.
