Minature fisherman

I used Gene Messer's pattern for the minature fisherman. I'm having serious doubts about painting after seeing this. I also used his recommend aging finish. Picture taken before a coat of Deft.

Gene Messers Bear

So this is my first try at Gene Messer's bear. I did not quite get the nose/face quite right. 2nd try was complete failure. finally figured out how to post more than one picuture in a post.

First Carving

This is the very first actual carving I did. Several years ago. One of Richard Butz patterns. Never did get his shotgun done.

first carvings in several years

This is my little boat and person fishing, he had to catch a fish so I whittled it out, that was as small as I could make it with the details. Next time I will make it smaller and maybe paint on the details, or I could make the boat and person bigger. Anyway this is my first of each of these. As most of you know I dont like doing the same thing over and over so keep watch for more first, a bear should be next.

little better, little different

I'm doing better, got more movement. Pt person says to work on keeping my shoulder muscles loose, right, so I gotta retrain the lower trapz. Not easy.
I got really upset at work and I couldn't take it any more, I had to release. I dont want to try turning yet, it requires me tightening the neck muscles too much, so I got a small piece of basswood and my knife and started whittling. I made a canoe that night. boy did I feel better. I found out if I sit in a chair and pay attention to my psoture and the muscle's I'm using I am actually strenthening the correct muscles. I'm gonna try and upload some photos now.

Wondering what happened?

This is not a blog where I write out stuff, Its a blog to share what I do, what I create with my hands and mind.
I have no idea who looks at my site, if anyone, until I post a note of facebook to check out a new pen or tell people to visit my site to get ideas. Anyway, in case anyone reads this and wonders what is up...
Late in Dec. 2009 Dr. discovered lots of masses inside me. So in Jan. and Feb. I had surgeries to find out what was going on. God blessed me by not allowing it to be cancer. and the Drs. were able to take care of it all. But it was a l o n g recovery finally during the summer and fall I got a few pens done. Then right after I got completely released medically, my Dad had to be moved to the veterans home, then two weeks later to the hospital where he spent the last 6 days of his life. 2 days later I was working and fell backwards, hitting the back of my head on a chair. I knew immediately, it was not good. first thing I did was make sure my toes moved and I was alive. I was and they did. I was like whiplash, and hurt all down my spine. I found out later I was lucky to be alive and thinkfully I and everyone knew not to move my neck, had I been stubburn and moved around, its likely I would be dead. Here it is 3 months later and the dr says the ligaments are healing and surgery is now off the table. I still have to give my neck time to heal and then physical therapy. I am least back to work for a few hours a weak, but It will be a long time before I can get back into the shop. I really hope I can at least by the end of the year, I have parts for some AMAZING pens. And I need to get back in the shop and do some turning, its my therapy and part of me, I'm going crazy without it.
I cant do much, so I'm spending way to much time on the computer. I have found so many interesting things, things that have been good for me. Tonight I've been reading other peoples blogs, for nearly 3 hrs now, it is ...words can't express it...I want to reach out to those people I don't even know and tell them, I know, I understand, I agree, You make me feel normal, and thank you for your insight. I am able to read people as to their character and I am amazed by them and would love to know them in person, I think we would be great friends and would be good for each other, able to help each other grow but, "we are but strangers passing in the night".
